San Diego Comic-Con 2024 is as close to the old Comic-Con as you can get. Last year, the writers and actors strike took a bit of a hit from the event’s prestige, but in 2024 it’s back and better than ever. Big drone shows, major movie premieres, big name celebrities, and big news stories are all back on the menu. And only from Marvel Studios.
Below, we’ll share the properties, people, and experiences that really stood out to us at Comic-Con 2024, as well as the ones that fell short of our expectations.
winner
Kevin Feige
It’s always a good weekend for Kevin Feige, but this weekend was especially good, as he’s starring in his first R-rated movie. Deadpool and WolverineIt had the sixth-highest grossing opening of all time, earned itself a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and pulled off the monumental feat of not only returning the Russo brothers but Robert Downey Jr. himself to the MCU. Not bad for three days.
DC Universe
When I went to Comic-Con, James Gunn Superman and his other DC projects at the convention. But that wasn’t exactly the right thing to do. Instead of one big centerpiece event, Gunn quietly unveiled the studio’s new logo and its first trailer ( Creature Command), and then Batman Spin-off show, penguin, Thanks to the trailers and in-person activations, the convention ended with a sense of DC’s perseverance and purpose.
fall out
The Prime Video show is in between seasons, so there were no panels, but as I walked the streets and the convention center, I couldn’t help but see people cosplaying as Vault Dwellers. They were whereverSome even wore full power armor. The show was clearly impactful and beloved by fans.
Interview with the Vampire
interview Though season 2 has only just concluded, AMC has continued to offer up another fantastic teaser that the show will take a big leap forward in season 3. Built around a not-so-glamorous interview with glam rock music star Lestat, fans got to see a fantastic, unforgettable performance from Sam Reid and was a great way to show how the tone will change in the next season.
Dear Fans,
After a strange few years for SDCC with the COVID-19 pandemic and Hollywood’s strike last year, 2024 felt like the first time in a long time that the convention was truly back. And thankfully, that was the case. The show floor experience this year was fantastic for show-goers, with exclusive sneak peeks and footage of key panels exclusively for show-goers, as well as a chorus of Deadpool from Marvel’s Hall H. Alien: Romulus “Live” facehugger attack.
The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power
After Season 1 ended with a feeling of “Is that the end?”, Amazon’s Lord of the Ring The prequel had a lot to prove going into its glitzy Hall H panel: it had touted building on the lessons it learned from season one, and now it needed to show it, and Prime Video proved it with arguably one of the best trailers in SDCC history and a fun, fantastic panel that got fans excited for season two next month.
Lionsgate
Lionsgate was at Comic-Con this year to promote two of its upcoming blockbuster movies. Borderlands and CrowBut neither film had a prominent presence on the panels or on the floor. Instead, promoters for both films were scattered around the convention center interacting with fans and handing out giveaways. And with everyone having to run in and out of the events, it’s fair to say both films were more visible than they would have been at the convention itself, many of which were much larger, more crowded. Borderlands The activations had lines forming every day, proving that there’s a way to enjoy Comic-Con without actually attending it.
dead pool
Marvel had its usual big Comic-Con moment, but one character dominated the majority of the weekend and was the worthy winner. Deadpool and Wolverine The night before the film’s record-breaking opening, a star-studded Hall H screening took place, and fans’ excitement for the foul-mouthed mercenary’s latest adventure was very clear from the sheer amount of cosplay: Deadpool, Deadpool, Deadpool everywhere you looked!
Anime TV Shows
The small-screen animation craze has spread to a variety of networks and streamers, with Prime Video showingInvincible, The Legend of Vox Machina, Hazbin Hoteland Sausage Party: Footopia) will be a long-running series with a panel of creators announcing updates and renewals. Futurama (Hulu) and Bob’s Burgers (Fox) hosted a packed panel and showed their energy is still at its peak. And Hulu’s Solar opposition Announced renewal and new Halloween special. Even without the RYick and Morty The panel still has no clear Rick and Morty It’s growing in presence thanks to an upcoming animated spinoff and Adult Swim’s “Pirate Parrrty” carnival, which takes place just outside the convention center.
What we do in the shadows
As FX’s hit vampire comedy enters its sixth and final season, it’s bittersweet. What we do in the shadows The panel in Hall H was a lot of fun, with a ton of cosplayers (mostly Najas) in attendance and fans getting to watch the Season 6 premiere. One panel also featured a funny, apparently spontaneous, moment when cast member Kayvan Novak joined the discussion via Zoom in character as Nandor, fangs and all.

Doctor Doom
Inside Hall H, the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom was one of the most exciting moments in Marvel Comic-Con history. And there were many such moments. But once the shock and excitement wore off, we found everyone confused. How did Downey return? What character is he playing? Is Marvel really playing Doctor Doom like this? Why not cast Kang differently? This move created more questions and anxiety than pure anticipation. But hopefully, in the next few years, that will reverse.
silo
The initial excitement silo They had a panel at Comic-Con, but it was a real shame they only announced the release date (November 15th) and didn’t have a trailer for everyone to enjoy. Filming for the season is finished. Why wait? It feels like they dropped the ball.
Strange New World
Strange New World has traditionally been a big hit at SDCC, bringing with it a lot of fun announcements and surprises. Fans weren’t sure what the show would have in store this year, considering filming for season 3 has only just begun, but no one expected such a bizarre extended clip. The bizarre scene in which Spock instantly becomes the target of jokes and harassment after Pike, Uhura, Raan and Chapel have to genetically engineer themselves to be Vulcans for a mission plays off the culturally discriminatory view of Vulcans as bizarre genetic traits, leading to some awkwardly overdone gags. Taken out of context, it wasn’t a great first showing of the new season.
of Doctor Who/Star Trek Crossover Panel
It became a big topic Star Trek and Doctor Who We called it the “Intergalactic Friendship Panel,” because why have an official crossover panel if there’s no news accompanying it? In the end, there wasn’t any. The panel was great because we got to see showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Russell T. Davies talk nerdy stuff together, but it built up too much anticipation beforehand (the panel had an accompanying activation Trek and what(Props to him) It was weird that he just shrugged and suggested a mobile gaming event in return.
Sony Spiderman universe
San Diego Comic-Con is a celebration of comics and the pop culture they create. Madame Web Ride the Wind (Isabella Merced) couldn’t escape at least one question from fans. Alien: Romulus Panel) includes: Kraven the Hunter or Venom: The Last DanceBoth are scheduled for release by the end of 2024.
