In 2024, the Earth received approximately 2.9 millimeters of rain per day. This may not sound like a big deal, but this could be a new record for precipitation on Earth.
Last year’s average global precipitation was about 3% higher than the average since records began in 1983, and slightly above the previous record set in 1998. The 2.9 millimeter figure is based on preliminary data compiled by researchers in Global Precipitation Climatology. The project may change slightly before the data is complete.
