First, to use Apple Intelligence, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. Then, follow our guide on how to install the iOS 18.1 developer beta. (Because this is a beta, it’s likely not polished yet, so consider backing up your iPhone first.)

Writing implements
Writing tools allow you to rewrite, proofread, and summarize anywhere there is a text field in your operating system.
These will be automatically available to Apple apps, and third-party apps that use Apple’s standard text controls.

Siri with Apple Intelligence
Users running iOS 18.1 can now enjoy the new Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence. Apple’s assistant has been redesigned and, as you’d expect, is more advanced. For example, Siri will understand the gist of what you’re saying, even if you stumble over what to say, and it will maintain context from one request to the next.
Email with Apple Intelligence
In the Mail app, you can use Apple Intelligence to get an overview of messages in your inbox, and try out the new Smart Reply feature, which provides AI-powered suggestions and recommendations on how to best reply to colleagues, friends, loved ones and more.

On-device categorization is also possible, so emails are organized into various sections such as “Primary,” “Transactional,” “Updates,” and “Promotional.”
Automatic Summary Notifications
In iOS 18.1, you can test new notifications that take advantage of Apple’s intelligence: Notifications are now automatically summarized, which means you get a quick “summary” of texts and emails.
Natural language search in photo apps
If you have a huge photo library in the Photos app, you won’t have to scroll endlessly to find that one snapshot that you forgot to organize into an album.

Instead, you can use natural language search to find what you’re looking for. With Apple Intelligence, you can also create a movie of your memories if you want.
How to turn on Apple Intelligence
Once you have installed iOS 18.1 Developer Beta on your iPhone, go to Settings. There you will find the Apple Intelligence option. Tap Join the Apple Intelligence Waiting List. After a few hours, you will have access to Apple Intelligence.
The official primetime version of iOS 18 is expected to be released later this year.
