In a shocking casting announcement, Robert Downey Jr. donned a green cape and took to the stage at the SDCC Marvel panel in Hall H to reveal that he’ll play Victor Von Doom in the new Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, which will be the fifth Avengers movie and replace the previously announced Kang Dynasty. The film will be released in 2026 and will be directed by the Russo Brothers, who also helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Downey’s Doom has also been confirmed to appear in the sixth Avengers film, Avengers: Secret Wars, which will also be directed by the Russo Brothers.
“New mask, same job,” Downey told the crowd from the stage.

Marvel’s Hall H panel at SDCC this year didn’t reveal any new trailers, but it did give us some intriguing new production information about the in-development title.
First up, the cast of Captain America: Brave New World came together onstage to talk about the film and watch a short Hall H exclusive clip of Harrison Ford as the Red Hulk, first seen in the recently released trailer. It was also confirmed that the quest for adamantium (the material Wolverine’s claws are made from) will be the driving force behind the film.
Members of the Thunderbolts cast also took to the stage to talk about the film’s production, but no new details were revealed.
Next, it was announced that the new Fantastic Four movie will be subtitled “First Step” and will be set in a 60s retro-future. Though filming has yet to begin, it was confirmed that the script is complete and cameras are due to roll within the next few days. This is definitely good news, as it was revealed that the movie will be released in exactly one year.
