After months of rumors, Apple has finally announced the news that it will be delving deeper into AI in ways that will make your everyday tasks a little easier — and maybe even make you smile.

To be clear, this is the iOS 18.1 developer beta, which means that this variant of the operating system is still in the testing phase and the Cupertino-based tech giant is seeking feedback from users, especially developers, on how to improve iOS 18.

As such, this iOS 18.1 developer beta may be a bit rough around the edges and some features may not be complete. That said, we recommend backing up your iPhone before installing the iOS 18.1 developer beta.

To access iOS 18.1, you’ll need to be a member of Apple’s developer beta program (it’s free to sign up).

And finally, you’ll need an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone (iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max).

How to turn on Apple Intelligence

For the first time since Apple rolled out the iOS 18 beta, you’ll have the chance to try out some powerful Apple Intelligence features, though these features aren’t turned on by default.

1. Tap “setting.”

2. Tap “Apple Intelligence” option.

3. Tap “Join Apple Intelligence” Waiting list.

You’ll be put on a waiting list, but you’ll have access to the Apple Intelligence features within a few hours.

The official iOS 18 version is expected to be released later this year, likely to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 16.
