Simone Biles did what she does best: She won. The undisputed champion in women’s gymnastics dominated the floor exercise on Thursday to win the all-around gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, setting off instant cheers around the stadium and across the internet.
The match was closer than expected, as Biles made some mistakes on the uneven bars, but she was generally stronger on the other three events: vault, balance beam and floor exercise. This was Biles’ sixth Olympic gold medal.

Her last Olympic experience was difficult; she had to withdraw from most of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics while dealing with “twisties,” a dangerous phenomenon in which gymnasts get mentally blocked during their performances. A return to Olympic glory in 2024 would mark a remarkable comeback. Biles also won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, so Thursday’s victory would make her the first woman to win two all-around gold medals in decades, dating back to the 1960s.
It was a big day for Biles, and one that confirmed what we already knew: She’s the greatest of all time.
