In Season 2, Corlys Velaryon’s (Steve Toussaint) naval blockade of the Gulet, the body of water around Dragonstone and Driftmark, remained strong and caused major problems for King’s Landing. But by the end of the season, Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) hatches a plan to break the blockade. He sends Tyrande Lannister (Jefferson Hall) as an emissary to the Triumvirate to secure the cooperation of the Navy and Admiral Shalakho Rohar (Abigail Thorne). In the final minutes of Season 2, we see them riding toward the Gulet, just as Corlys and Arryn of Hal (Abubakar Salim) ride off to join the blockade.
Why on earth did House of the Dragon Season 2 not have 10 episodes?
We’ll have to wait until next season to see the two sides clash, but when they do go head to head it will surely be a spectacle to behold. Fire and BloodMany dragon riders join the battle, including Jacaeris Velaryon (Harry Collett) on Vermax, Adam of Hal (Clinton Liberty) on Seasmoke, Hugh Hamer (Kieran Bew) on Vermithor, and Wolf the White (Tom Bennett) on Silverwing. Gay indulgenceis captured by the Triumvirate. Aegon manages to escape aboard his young dragon Stormcloud, but Viserys is taken prisoner by Lohar. “Once Upon a Time Queen” ends not just with the promise of a naval battle, but also a land one: Now Aemon and Criston Cole’s (Fabian Frankel) armies, along with those of House Lannister and House Hightower, are marching towards the Riverlands, where Daemon is uniting the River Lords’ armies, while the Winter Wolf, introduced here slightly earlier than in the books, heads south to aid Rhaenyra.
How House of the Dragon Season 2 is Different from George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood
When these armies inevitably meet, there will be great bloodshed: at the Battle of Honeywine, Prince Daeron and his dragon, Thessarion, will prove their mettle in war, and at the Battle of the Red Fork and the Battle of Fishfeed, House Lannister and the entirety of Team Green will suffer heavy losses.
House of the Dragon Season 2 has been good about picking and choosing which battles play out on screen, effectively cutting out the Battle of Burning Mill and the taking of the Stone Hedge in favour of Luke’s rest (the only exception being alluding to Garrett but not following through), so while we may never see all of these battles play out in their entirety, we can expect to hear about them and how important they are.
