Tonight at D23, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni took to the stage to give attendees a first look at the upcoming film. Star Wars movie: The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Set at a currently undisclosed point during the events of the Disney+ streaming series, the film will bridge the gap between the rise of the remnants of the Empire and the eventual conflict that will erupt in Dave Filoni’s The New Republic film (and before that, Ahsoka‘s second season.
The footage shown at D23 was: The Mandalorian In the scene where Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) meets Grogu, new narration can be heard as he describes the boy as his new apprentice and says that while he’s a bounty hunter, he must choose what kind of work he does. Too But it’s selective. We cut to Din walking into a bar and shooting a bunch of people. The new shot brings us to the first big surprise: the Razor Crest, destroyed in the climax of Season 2, is now flying through the air. Another shot shows Din in the cockpit. We then cut to Din entering the base alone, on an ice planet that bears a strong resemblance to Hoth. Grogu crawl through tunnels and Imperial mouse droids roll all over the place. There are some lightning-fast shots from their perspective amid blaster fire. Standard Imperial snowtroopers roam the base, adding to the Hoth feel. We then cut to Din climbing onto an AT-ST walker as it races through the snowy mountains, then jumping out of a hatch on top. Din and the walker roll down a hill, and at the bottom Din lands at the feet of two AT-AT walkers.
The film ended on a slightly less eerie note, with two Anzellans (Babu Frik’s species) in a small space. The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian Season 3).
