Tron Legacyproduced one of the greatest soundtracks of all time by Daft Punk, but everyone was curious as to who would be responsible for the music. AresAfter all, Daft Punk broke up in 2021. After a killer trailer that was only shown inside the venue, a red laser shot out from the back of the arena, imprinting the familiar logo. Tron Ares Nine Inch Nails music is playing. Of course, that came after a fantastic trailer. It starts with a top-down shot of Evan Peters’ Julian Dillinger explaining that for most of human history we’ve been looking for life in the universe, but all that time we’ve been looking in the wrong direction. He says, it’s not in space, it’s here. He’s referring, of course, to the Grid, the inner world discovered by Kevin Flynn in the original. TronAnd within that lies the intelligent life he wants to bring out.
He’s not alone. A woman named Eve Kim (Greta Lee) rides a snowmobile across a giant mountain, where she spots an orange tree that seems out of place. Elsewhere, a man in red (Ares, played by Jared Leto) appears in our world and says he’s looking for something he doesn’t understand: permanence. The streets are strewn with debris and trash. Rain falls on his black-gloved hands as he fondles a bug on his finger.
A helicopter parks next to a pier. Eve dangles from the helicopter, looking down at Ares. “Who are you?” she asks. Cut to a mountain road with two red light cycles gliding down a nighttime road. We then see a familiar red grid. A brief shot of Gillian Anderson. Eve falls through the air in a red light suit, but a hand reaches out and grabs her. Eve and Ares ride down the river in a light boat.
Then we see all the Lightcycle action on the streets of our world. Two red Lightcycles moving around like in a 1980s video game, shot from straight down. As we get closer, the Lightcycles hurtle down the street, splitting a car in half and causing a major accident. Finally, we see Ares walking on an unfamiliar grid, and a grey-haired, purplish-robed man with a strange symbol on the front says “Greetings program.” It’s Kevin Flynn, or some version of him.
Tron AresThe 1st Album, with music by Nine Inch Nails, is scheduled to be released on October 10, 2025.
