It’s been known for several years that Disney is preparing a live-action remake. Lilo & Stitch, And there was always the question of what to do with our titular experiment 626. Would he be CG, or a CG/puppet hybrid? Would he look good? The answer to the second question is…actually, yes.

During last night’s D23 panel, Disney released the first look at Stitch in the live-action remake. In CG, Stitch definitely looks like a one-to-one translation of the character, and it helps that he’s voiced by original actor Chris Sanders. Considering Disney’s VFX-heavy movies can be nightmarish at times, this is a solid effort, and it has me curious to see what other CG characters like Jumba and Pleakley will look like when they show up.
If you haven’t seen the original 2005 movie yet, Lilo & Stitch It focuses on a young Hawaiian girl (played by Maia Kealoha in the live-action version) who is still reeling from the death of her parents and the prospect of being separated from her sister Nami (Sydney Agudong). Lilo longs for a friend, and that wish comes in the form of Stitch, a recently created alien who is on the run from the space police. Thinking Stitch is a bit of an oddball dog, Lilo adopts him, and the two go on an adventure together. The first movie was so adorable that it led to a quick-to-DVD sequel, a spin-off show with a catchy theme song, and a well-known web game (which also features in a few movies). Kingdom Hearts game.
If you like it, good news. Lilo & Stitch The remake is scheduled to hit theaters in summer 2025, and we can’t wait to see what this version of Stitch looks like throughout the entire movie.
