The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones (NCH) 700 hold a special place in my heart as they were the first ANC headphones I ever owned and I’ve used them on and off. They served me well for two years, until a few weeks ago when I started using the Bose QuietComfort Ultra over-ear headphones.

5 Reasons to Buy the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Over the Bose NCH 700
Given the 3.5mm jack, bigger bass, more settings, and ’90s-centric design, I’m leaning towards Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra headphones.
While I quickly grew to love Bose’s 2023 QuietComfort Ultra, Bose’s 2019 flagship headphones, the NCH 700, also have a lot of great features to offer. For example, the NCH 700 are great headphones for people just getting started in noise canceling and looking for something less expensive, especially considering that you often pay a premium price for Bose’s premium quality.
Here are other factors to consider when deciding between Bose’s two over-ear headphones, including affordability, and why you might be better off going with the NCH 700.
1 Lower price
Good sound quality at a good price

The most obvious reason to choose the 700 over the QuietComfort Ultra is the affordability: The standard price for the 700 is $379, but you can usually find the headphones on sale for $299, while the QuietComfort Ultra is usually discounted from $429, bringing the price down to $379.
The 700 series is still valuable even though it is still a few years old.
While I love these headphones, I don’t recommend paying over $350 for over-ear headphones, especially when you can get a good pair like the Sony WH-1000XM5 for around $300. The 700 Series is still a good value even though it’s only a few years old.

2 Slimmer design
A more modern design
If you don’t like the classic, slightly chunky look of the Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones, you might like the slimmer, more futuristic look of the Bose NCH 700. The headband that connects the two earcups is not as slim and cushioned as the QuietComfort Ultra’s, and the earcups are more oval-shaped whereas the Ultra’s are slightly circular and thicker.

5 equally fashionable AirPods Max alternatives
While Apple’s AirPods Max have been grabbing the attention of over-ear headphones, they’re not the only sleek and powerful option.
Aside from the aesthetic appeal, the slimmer design and less padding make the headphones feel a little lighter on your head. Plus, the 700 comes in a nice silver and black design, giving it a more classic and premium feel.
3 Easy control over noise cancellation
Easily adjust noise cancelling levels
While I like the auto-adjustable noise cancellation feature, the Bose QuietComfort makes it a little confusing how to tweak the cancellation level to suit your particular preferences. On the 700 NCH, adjusting the noise cancellation level is as simple as opening the Bose Music app and selecting 1-10, with 1 being the lowest noise cancellation level and 10 being the highest.

4 Charging case

The Bose 700 NCH case is a bit bulkier than other headphones, but there’s a good reason for that: The Bose 700 NCH carrying case allows you to charge your headphones on the go.

FAQ
Q: Is the Bose NCH 700 worth buying in 2024?
Although these headphones are 5 years old, I would recommend them to anyone looking for a decent pair of noise cancelling headphones. I know tech enthusiasts won’t be impressed with slightly outdated headphones, but these headphones still sound good and offer basic noise cancelling capabilities.
