Sonos isn’t planning on bringing back the old app to help users who are having issues with the new one.
This comes according to Sonos CEO Patrick Spence, who shared the news during a Reddit AMA (via The Verge).
“Until recently, I had hoped that we might be able to re-release the older app (S2) as an alternative for those with issues that have not yet been resolved,” Spence wrote.

“Of course, the key point is that Sonos is not just about a mobile app, it’s also the software that runs on our speakers and in the cloud. In the months since the new mobile app was released, we’ve been updating the software that runs on our speakers and in the cloud, and as a result, the S2 is less reliable and stable than you may remember. After extensive testing, we’ve concluded that re-releasing the S2 would make the issues worse, not better. I think that’s unfortunate. For me it was unfortunate,” he added.
The issues Spence is referring to have to do with the company’s new app, which was released in April but was so poorly made and buggy that the company apologized in July. The Sonos app is a key part of the company’s ecosystem of home speakers, soundbars, and headphones, and when it doesn’t work properly it can cause major headaches for owners of Sonos products.

The company announced in July that it planned to fix the issues over the next few months, but things apparently aren’t going according to plan, with Sonos now delaying the launch of two products until it can iron out all the bugs.
