In an interview with Deadline, evil Unfortunately, creators Robert King and Michelle King didn’t announce any big news about the show’s future. But they did exude a clear sense of hope for the world. Robert King told the trade publication, “I feel like there’s two more seasons… I’d love to do more… Because it’s just cool. It’s a fun idea and the cast is fun.”
He also hinted at a reason for the show’s cancellation: “If we’re a victim of anything, it’s timing. Obviously there was a change in attitude towards things after the strike, in part because Wall Street reevaluated their business. And then, as you all know, Paramount+ reevaluated what they were doing and made the decision to pull the show. And I don’t think the show was as popular until that decision was made.”
Michelle King said, “We’re really happy that it’s become so popular on Netflix and that we’ve found such a large audience. All we really want is for people to see what we do,” but both Kings declined to comment on whether they had had discussions about taking the show elsewhere.
Finally, she said, “I’m proud of the show and grateful that we got to have those final four episodes, where we landed the plane.”
Robert King also noted that, as creators, they prefer to leave some loose threads at the end: “I think we’re not interested in wrapping things up in a dark or pretty bow. It’s always like, ‘Okay, let’s ask the audience to imagine what happens next week, next month.’ The problem is, if you cut it out, there’s no way for the audience to fill in the gaps that you leave.”
