In case you missed it, Microsoft announced in a support document on Tuesday that it’s in the process of phasing out the Control Panel, a 39-year-old Windows feature, and introducing the Settings app instead.
This may not come as a surprise to many Windows users: since October 2020, Microsoft has been redirecting users. Away It’s removing the Settings app from the Control Panel and encouraging users to use the Settings app instead, which “offers a more modern, streamlined experience,” Microsoft said in a support document.
Say goodbye to control panels
The Control Panel has been a part of Windows since 1985, but as mentioned above, Microsoft is officially retiring this nostalgic feature. The Control Panel lets you add devices and printers, adjust the date and time, customize your desktop, remove programs you don’t need, and more.

But the Settings app, released alongside Windows 8 in 2012, became the new place to perform many of these tasks and is slowly taking over.
Microsoft hasn’t announced exactly when the Control Panel will be officially retired, but many will be grateful for this information.
The Control Panel has been around for almost 40 years (since Windows 1.0), and its retirement marks the end of an era that longtime PC users will remember as an essential part of the Windows experience.
