5 Star Wars games to hold you over until Outlaws releases

On August 30, Ubisoft will release Star Wars Outlaws for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. While fans prepare to travel to a galaxy far, far away, there are plenty of other Star Wars games available to play right now on current-gen systems.

Many of us at Pocket-Lint are excited about Star Wars Outlaws, myself included. Players looking for an experience that recreates the authentic atmosphere of the movies and offers an amazing world to explore needn’t look any further. There are some fantastic modern Star Wars games and classic games available on the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S right now.

5 LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The original LEGO Star Wars games from Traveler’s Tales were iconic during the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 era. The Skywalker Saga is an all-new experience spanning the entirety of the franchise’s nine core films. Play as beloved characters including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Rey. The game offers players memorable moments from across the nine films, packed with LEGO charm and humor, plus plenty of supplemental activities and collectibles to find.

4 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

For many, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the best gaming experience the series has to offer. This early Bioware title has long been acclaimed as a strong RPG set outside of the now-established canon, allowing players to lead a story set 4,000 years before the Skywalker Saga. The Switch version is a bare-bones port that stays faithful to the 2003 version; however, Xbox Series X/S players can enjoy 4K upscaled visuals.

3 Star Wars Episode 1: Racer

Ask any millennial who saw Star Wars Episode I Racer at the cinema and they’ll probably say the same thing: Podracing is awesome! Star Wars Episode I Racer lets players race around the track as Anakin Skywalker facing off against Selbulba. This upscaled version runs in beautiful 1080p with 60fps. The game also features modern control tweaks. Split-screen multiplayer is also available so you can relive 1999 with your friends.

2 Star Wars: Squadrons

Available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S

No Star Wars game can be talked about without mentioning space combat. Star Wars: Squadrons is a modernized dogfighting experience, where players jump into the cockpit of the series’ iconic starfighters. Though the campaign is small, it’s the gameplay that makes this a must-play for fans. Multiplayer is robust, supporting up to 10 players in team deathmatch and fleet combat modes.

1 Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S

Looking at the current expanded universe of Star Wars, one game has set the standard in the video game space: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment. Players take on the role of Cal Kestis and explore the early days of the Jedi in hiding from the Empire. In this Metroidvania, you’ll explore different planets and face off against familiar foes while being pursued by Inquisitors. Jedi: Fallen Order has been praised for its Soulsborne style of gameplay, as it’s a significant change from Respawn’s usual MO.
