I have been interested in smart lighting for a long time and my first investment was Goby I’ve always been intrigued by the company’s products and ecosystem ever since I bought a strip light a few years ago. Over the years, I’ve mainly invested in various strip lights, a few smart bulbs, and a set of very fun outdoor string lights, and I was eager to try out their latest offering. lamp I knew it was a quality product, but I wondered how practical and useful it would be and whether it was worth the investment.

What I like about the Govee Floor Lamp 2
Color, Customization, and Control
What stood out to me was how much of an impact the lamp had, even in the daytime. The temperature range and peak brightness are great, making it versatile for day and night use. I used it primarily for ambient lighting to supplement activities like watching TV, playing games, and reading in the evenings and into the night, and it proved to be a valuable and enjoyable companion. I moved it around to different parts of the house to highlight plants and ornaments, or to illuminate less decorated areas. Although you will need an outlet, the unit is not particularly heavy or cumbersome, so you can experiment with placement.
I was enchanted by the warmth it brought and it only made me look forward to the cozier months ahead.
It’s powerful enough to help anyone whose job requires a bright spot in the cooler range, and yet I’m more enamoured with the warmth it provides, making me look forward all the more to the cozier months ahead.
I especially like that it comes with a remote that can perform basic, but important functions. This little device allows you to turn the unit on and off, change the color, increase or decrease the temperature and brightness. It also allows you to sync music. These options are extremely helpful and very convenient, especially the ability to change the temperature and brightness. Sometimes it can be a pain to open the app if you need to change these settings. The remote doesn’t work with any of the presets, but I don’t think that’s an issue at all.
You can also control the lamp with the Govee app and integrate it into various home smart systems. The lamp is also Matter compatible, Alexa , Google Assistant and Homekit. And one more fun touch: About an inch or two below the glossy base also lights up to match the color of the lamp. So cute.
What I didn’t like about the Govee Floor Lamp 2
Presets are demotivating
There isn’t much to say about the latest Govee lamps, especially not that they are disappointing. Setting them up can be a little time-consuming and tedious as not everything may fit together nicely. You are provided with metal slats that you screw together (all you need are included), and then you have to snap the lighting strip into place. This process takes a bit of time and effort. If the lighting components don’t fit together nicely, you may have to start over or trim at the end.
It’s great that the light has a handy magnetic remote holder attached to it, but this plastic bracket can be noticeable. The light is designed to face the wall, so the clip faces outwards. You can mount it anywhere on the lamp you like; it looks better if it’s low, but not too low, which can be inconvenient.
If there’s an issue, it’s that there aren’t many presets, at least compared to what modern strip lights offer.
If there’s one issue, it’s that there aren’t many presets compared to what modern strip lights offer. There are lots of fun color combinations and I’m sure more will be added in the future, but I like to try out what other people have created and periodically search for the exact combination of pattern, brightness and color. There are a lot, but I wish there were more.
This isn’t necessarily a criticism of the Floor Lamp 2, but it might be worth noting the features of Govee’s higher-end Floor Lamp Pro, which has a fabric cover for the base (while still providing light from the base) and a built-in Bluetooth speaker. It’s a little taller and a bit more expensive, but it might be worth considering.
Conclusion: Should you buy the Govee Lamp 2?
It’s hard not to recommend this versatile and customizable smart lamp. I think the investment decision will depend more on what you’ll use the lamp for than on the quality of the lamp. It’s great for creating ambiance and mood to support recreation, tranquility and intimacy, and has enough power to keep your surroundings bright when you need it for practical purposes.
Easy control, both through the physical remote and smart home integration, is useful for a wide range of people. I believe that with some smart home devices, a fair bit of work must be done to optimize and get the most out of your investment. But that’s not necessarily the case with this lamp. I don’t think users need to dive into all the settings to maximize their enjoyment. With a lot of features and versatility, the Govee Lamp 2 is worth a look for anyone who needs some lighting in their home, for fun or not.
