I recently returned to my hometown of York, a small city in the north of England. It is historically rich and culturally vibrant, but it lacks in one department: trees. According to the city council, canopy coverage in 2022 will be just over 10%, which is on the low side. The average in Europe is about 15 percent, and in London it’s about 20 percent.
The City of York has recognized the countless benefits of urban trees and is planning to do something about this issue. These include cooling, carbon sequestration, pollution, etc.
