Of the many requests X-Men fans had for the original Fox films, having Hugh Jackman don Wolverine’s yellow and blue costume was pretty high up the list. In the original trilogy, the character wore a black leather outfit. matrix It was popular at the time, and it (along with the tank top) basically became Wolverine’s signature film suit throughout his run in the series. Deadpool and Wolverine This will be the first time Jackman has actually put on the suit, and those involved in the production of the film apparently had some feelings about it.
During a recent press conference, executive producer Wendy Jacobson reminisced about seeing Jackman don the classic suit for the first time in a pre-shooting camera test. She called the sight of him walking out in the suit “one of the craziest things,” noting that some crew members were in tears. “First of all, it was shocking to see those two guys walking out together in costume,” she recalled. “But then when Hugh walked out in the yellow and blue, there were grown men on set crying.” That confirmed that the suit’s inclusion in the film was “very special.”
Director Shawn Levy previously spoke about how he fought hard to get the suit in the film. He didn’t just want Jackman to wear the costume, he said in September, “I absolutely wanted him to…get it right.” That meant trying out multiple versions to get it looking right, which he was very proud of at the time. And it certainly looks good. One of the odd things about the X-Men movies is how they defined the superhero movie genre while also shying away from its comic book elements. X-Men: First Class and Wolverine The X-Men films featured more fantastical costumes, but the next film saw a return to leather gear, and while it’s certainly cool to see Jackman in the classic costume, it’s also a reminder of just how strangely Fox’s X-Men films handled the source material.
