Apple’s iPad mini hasn’t been updated since 2021, but there are signs that a new model is on the way.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noticed that many Apple stores were running low on various configurations of the iPad Mini, and he said the device was considered “low stock” internally.

This could mean that Apple is planning to release a new iPad mini soon, though Gurman gave no indication as to whether that would happen at the iPhone launch event scheduled for September 9.

This isn’t the first time a new iPad mini has been in the works. In July, reports suggested Apple was planning to launch a new iPad mini in 2024, with hints that the device would feature Apple’s A17 chip. This should enable the iPad mini to run Apple Intelligence, with Gurman saying he “wouldn’t be surprised to see it updated for AI.”

The iPad mini was last updated in October 2021 with an all-new design that includes a larger display, narrower bezels, a Touch ID button built into the power button, and Apple’s A15 Bionic processor. It’s a great device and my favorite iPad to date, but it needs an update, especially in the chip department.
