After years of production, a change of director, and reshoots, Lionsgate Borderlands The movie has come out, and apparently it’s not doing very well. Despite being directed by Cate Blanchett and trying its best to be entertaining, the movie has received a ton of negative reviews, and those negative receptions have been equally devastating to its box office prospects.
According to Variety, the film adaptation of Gearbox’s famous Loot Shoot series grossed $8.8 million worldwide during its opening weekend. Yes, that’s right. It made $4 million domestically, and word of mouth didn’t help. According to analyst Luiz Fernando, the film received a D+ CinemaScore, which I personally didn’t think was possible. For comparison, that’s almost a third of its 2018 opening weekend. tomb raider Remake or 2021 Mortal Kombat The latter had to deal with the pandemic and its simultaneous streaming release on HBO Max at the time, and director Eli Roth is working on a release that’s just shy of last year’s opening gross of $10.4 million. Thanksgiving, It cost just $15 million to make. Borderlands It reported $115 million.
The general consensus regarding the film seems to be that if you want a flashy shooter, you should play the game instead. Tales from the Border If you’re interested in the world and characters, give it a read. At the time of writing, its Rotten Tomatoes rating has skyrocketed from 3% to 10%, and its audience rating is a little higher at 50%. Maybe it’ll find a slightly more favorable audience when it’s released for streaming, and then Gearbox and 2K will just fade from memory over the course of a few weeks. This movie isn’t going to kill the franchise completely. Street Fighter It wasn’t an issue for the 2009 movie, but it’s probably going to be a sticky question facing developers. Borderlands 4 It will come out eventually.
Oh, and Deadpool and Wolverine It just crossed the $1 billion mark. Yay.
