A 2,800-year-old red and blue checked dress discovered in an early Iron Age tomb in the Netherlands may be Europe’s oldest bicoloured garment.
The skeletons of the elites who once wore this impressive costume were completely decayed by the harsh sandy soil. But Karina Grömer of the Natural History Museum in Vienna says the remains of the woolen dress, which has become quite decayed and brown due to calcification beneath the metal jewelry, suggest that the dyed fabric came from the garment. It is said to provide evidence that it is true.
