Key Takeaways
- Claude AI artifacts provide dedicated windows for viewing content such as code, websites, and visualizations.
- Artifacts speeds up your workflow by enabling live previews of websites, games, and more.
- Claude AI’s free users have limited prompts, which makes them less productive compared to Pro users.
In June, Anthropic released their Claude 3.5 Sonnet model. AI Chatbots Along with the new models, new preview features have been introduced. RelicsArtifacts are dedicated windows that you can use to display content separately from the main chat. code, Website, flowchart or SVG Images.
Artifact was released as a preview feature in June, but Anthropic is now making it available as a core feature in Claude AI, allowing users to: free, professionaland team Plans: Artifacts is available on iOS and Android apps, as well as on the web, but free users are heavily limited in the number of messages they can send.
What can you do with Claude AI artifacts?
Artifacts can speed up your workflow
The concept for Artifacts was born when Alex Tamkin, one of Anthropic’s research staff, was using Claude AI to create a website. He found that he frequently had to generate code, copy it into an editor, save the file, and open it in a web browser. So he decided to create a rough version of Claude that would display a webpage in a side-by-side interface while he was building it. This was the beginning of what would eventually become Artifacts.
The origins of Artifacts are a perfect example of why this feature is so useful: you can now write code for your website using Claude and see a live preview of your page in the Artifacts window, with no additional steps required. This is by no means a groundbreaking AI development, but it’s a huge quality-of-life improvement that makes it easier to be productive when using Claude.
You can ask Claude to generate code for a simple retro video game, then run that code in the Artifact window.
However, websites aren’t the only thing you can display in the Artifacts window. In addition to viewing generated code in the Artifacts window, you can also run that code. For example, you can ask Claude to generate a simple code for you. Retro Video Games and then run that code in the Artifact window. I asked Claude to create a simple side-scrolling game where a robot jumps over obstacles. The code was created in the Artifact window, and the game could be played in the Preview tab of that window. It took about the same amount of time to create a working version of the game that Claude could play within.
You can also use artifact windows for a variety of other things: create and display flowcharts, build interactive dashboards, create visualizations, design SVG graphics, and more. You don’t have to do anything to use artifact windows; Claude will automatically create one for you if he thinks it would be useful in your current situation.
What are the limitations when using Artifacts as a free user?
You can’t make much progress with a free account
Making this feature available to free users is a positive step, but it does come with limitations. Anthropic is not placing a limit on the number of messages free users can send, instead stating that the limits will vary based on demand. When I first tried out Artifacts with a free account, I was limited to only being able to provide 10 prompts and was told to wait about five hours before I could provide more prompts.
Everyone’s situation may be different, but 10 prompts is not a huge number – sure, I could make a game that worked with just one prompt, but then I’d only be able to make 9 more edits to the game and would be limited from there.
I may have gotten more turns if I’d tried it at a different time, but considering I was using Claude when most people in the US were asleep, it’s unlikely I’d get significantly more at any other time. Chat GPT there are limitations to what free users can do.
With a Pro account, they were able to continue developing the game without encountering any further obstacles, and according to Anthropic, Claude Pro offers at least five times the usage rate compared to the free version.
