Apple CEO Tim Cook on the Magic Mouse: ‘Uhhhhhhhhh’

Apple has been producing some incredible products for years. Between the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Macbook Air, it can be very difficult to choose the best one. After Apple’s 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference, YouTuber Marques Brownlee sat down with CEO Tim Cook to get his thoughts on some of Apple’s most infamous devices. No list would be complete without a mention of the Magic Mouse. After a long, pensive look at Apple’s history, Cook stroked his chin and said this famous quote:

The Magic Mouse. Hmm. That was another incredible moment. Hmm. People may not think about the Magic Mouse as much as they think about the Macbook Air or the iPad or whatever you might name. Hmm. But getting the ergonomics right was key. Yeah.

I’d like to talk about Apple’s wireless mouse, the Magic Mouse. A beetle with its legs stuck in the airThis comment about not needing to charge while charging left the Apple CEO speechless. On first reading, it seemed like Cook was saying that getting the ergonomics “right” was the key. But after a few rewatches and a closer look at my own Magic Mouse, I’m pretty sure he meant getting the ergonomics “right.”well done” was the real achievement. That comma is important. The Magic Mouse started to look like a device that Apple just churned out, rather than something that Apple had worked hard on and done well.

Talking Technology and AI with Tim Cook!

Despite Cook’s comments, Apple’s Magic Mouse is far from ergonomically sound. Late last year, an engineer wrote:The world’s first ergonomic Magic Mouse with no weak spots.“There he was This is not the first timeHowever, Ivan Kuleshov has added a new plastic case to make the Magic Mouse more comfortable to use, and it now has a new charging port that lets you charge it while you’re using it.

Cook was then asked about the iPhone, and he immediately replied, “Oh my God. It changed the world!” It’s a simple answer, and indisputably true. Cook was probably expecting to be asked about the iPhone, or some other flashy new product like the Vision Pro, but kudos to Brownlee for asking about perhaps Apple’s most embarrassing and ever-present device.

Magic Mouse Introduced in 2009The Magic Mouse was the first mouse to feature Apple’s multi-touch technology pioneered on the iPhone and iPod. It came standard with the iMac, ran on two AA batteries, and retailed for just $69. In 2015, Apple released the Magic Mouse 2, which was almost identical except that it was rechargeable. This model featured the iconic Lightning connector charging port on the back of the mouse. In 2022, Apple released a new Magic Mouse 2, with the only difference being Black for an extra $20When it’s turned upside down, it still feels bad.
