Apple Patents a Foldable iPhone With ‘Self-Healing’ Screen

Imagine dropping your phone. Instead of lamenting its dented state, you watch the screen repair itself right before your eyes, like watching Wolverine from the X-Men mend himself after a battle that kills humans. Apple’s new patent presents something a little less obvious. The foldable iPhone features a “self-healing” layer over the screen that automatically fills in dents and other scratches.

A patent for electronic devices with flexible display cover layers shows what Apple is trying to do to make a potential foldable iPhone stand out. Like other foldable devices, this device has a hinge and a flexible display cover layer. These displays on mobile phones such as Samsung galaxy flip and Fold 5, pixel foldor one plus open It’s thinner and bendable than regular flagship phones. This makes it much more fragile to impacts and scratches. Apple is sharing some details about how the “self-healing material” coating on the top of the phone’s screen “can fill in dents without external intervention.”

Alternatively, in other designs, the cell phone applies heat, light, or electrical current to the surface to stimulate the healing process. This could include a “transparent conductor” that could heat the display cover layer while the device is charging or when the user turns it on. According to the patent, this foldable design could be used not only for mobile phones, but also for laptops and tablets. Apple previously patent We talked about the self-healing iPhone in detail, but not in the context of the folding display.

This patent was first discovered by Hawks. Obviously Applediscovered this among just under 20 newly granted patents for the Cupertino, Calif., company. As usual with patent filings, none of this means it’ll make it into products in the near or distant future, but it does seem to indicate that Apple is thinking about foldable products pretty seriously.Last year we Foldable iPhone with waterfall display.Needless to say, there are several other reports Apple is designing a clamshell foldable model Not only foldable iPad.

The patent does not say what Apple will use for the self-healing layer other than “a polymer or other desirable material with self-healing properties.” However, that coating can “spread across the entire exterior surface of the display cover.”

LG previously showed off Possibility of self-healing backplates Curved G Flex Phone. There was some talk recently with analyst firm CCS Insight about self-healing displays. Focus on it Nanocoating technology, which fills in gaps when the underlying layer is exposed to air, could be commercialized within the next few years. The general idea behind self-healing is not that large knife wounds will be stitched up before your eyes, but that it will reduce the damage caused by small scratches on delicate screens like those seen on Foldable. is. But I can’t help but imagine my boyfriend’s iPhone 14 Pro literally shooting bullets out of its case as if it were a gag in the next latest movie. deadpool & wolverine.
