Keeping my phone charged throughout the day when I’m on the go for work or traveling is always a struggle. I’m an admittedly addicted phone user and am rarely away from my iPhone, so the battery wears out quickly, but I was unconvinced about adding a power bank to my daily routine. However, when I saw how small the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 5K was, I wanted to give it a try and see how it would fit into my daily life. Overall, I was impressed with the ease of use, thinness, and charging capacity.

Pricing, Availability and Specifications
Belkin’s BoostCharge Pro 5K is available now exclusively from Apple. It’s the latest addition to the BoostCharge series and Belkin’s first “Pro” model in the lineup. It retails for $59.95 and is available in stores and online. The “Pro” series is Qi2 magnetic charging, This is the latest wireless charging standard from the Wireless Power Consortium, and the inclusion of Qi2 means that you’ll have compatibility with non-iPhone devices when Android manufacturers add Qi2 support to their phones in the future (which is probably just a matter of time).

The Belkin BoostCharge Pro is unfortunately limited to 7.5W power output on the go due to the small battery size and the Pro’s slim design. Users can only take full advantage of Qi2’s maximum 15W wireless charging speeds when the BoostCharge Pro is plugged into a power source. Of course, this is redundant since at that point you’re better off plugging your phone into a fast charger. The Pro has 5,000mAh of power reserve, which is enough to charge most compatible iPhones from completely dead to full or near full. BoostCharge Pro is compatible with iPhone 12 and later.
What I like about the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank 5K
Truly mobile and well designed
One of the reasons I don’t regularly use power banks is because they are bulky, heavy, and often a pain to carry around all day. When traveling, you want to pack light and no one wants bulging pockets or carrying a big bag while walking around a strange city abroad. The BoostCharge Pro is thin and incredibly light, my unit was even lighter than the advertised 5 ounces. With the BoostCharge Pro attached, I could easily slide my phone in and out of my pocket, so it didn’t feel like a burden to carry around.
I also like the textured surface of BoostCharge Pro. I don’t like the hard plastic surface of other magnetic wireless chargers. BoostCharge Pro’s velvety smooth matte surface feels premium and doesn’t feel like cheap tech. The kickstand is also a plus, as it allows you to charge your phone upright. It also allows you to keep your phone elevated and in landscape orientation so you can continue watching something while it charges.
What I didn’t like about the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank 5K
Qi2 in name only
The most disappointing thing about this charger is that it doesn’t take advantage of Qi2’s peak charging speed of 15W. Larger Qi2 units from Belkin and other manufacturers can reach 15W when charging wirelessly, so we can only speculate that the BoostCharge Pro’s slim frame makes this impossible.
This model’s slim, lightweight design, reliable performance and 5,000mAh capacity mean you won’t have to worry about carrying it around for long days, while traveling, or to concerts and music festivals.
Belkin points out that as long as the BoostCharge Pro is plugged into a power source, it can wirelessly charge a compatible iPhone at 15W, but again, I don’t see the point in that. If you’ve already plugged something in, you might as well plug in your phone. This doesn’t negatively impact BoostCharge Pro’s ability to charge your device, but it does limit how quickly your battery can recover.
Should I buy the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank 5K?
I love using the BoostCharge Pro, even though I’m not normally a fan of MagSafe or wireless chargers. This model is thin, light, reliable, and has a 5,000mAh capacity, so I don’t have to worry about carrying it around for long periods of time, whether it’s for days when I can’t charge, traveling, or going to a concert or music festival. If you’ve found power banks too bulky or inconvenient to carry around in the past, the Belkin BoostCharge Pro offers great value.
