Chinese Spaceplane Releases Mysterious Object in Orbit Months After Launch

China’s intriguing spaceplane has appeared again, releasing an unidentified object into orbit that may mark the end of its mysterious mission.

The U.S. Space Command is currently tracking the mysterious object that is believed to have been released by a reusable spaceplane around 3 p.m. on May 24, said Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. I got it. Regarding X: “This object could be a satellite deployment or it could be hardware released prior to the end of the mission and deorbit (as was done during the first spaceplane flight),” he wrote. “It will be interesting to see if this craft is piloted or landed anytime soon.”

The spaceplane was launched aboard a Long March 2F rocket from China’s Jiuquan Launch Center on December 14. Shortly thereafter, Launched six objects into orbitIt appeared to be giving off a variety of different signals, and McDowell suggested that the recent unidentified object could mean the spacecraft is preparing to land soon after spending 164 days in orbit.

The Chinese spaceplane is a product of the China Academy of Rocket Technology, a state-owned manufacturer of space launch vehicles for both civilian and military use. The spaceplane’s maiden flight took place in 2020, remaining in orbit for just two days before landing on Earth. Its second orbital flight is expected to launch in August 2022, spending 276 days in Earth orbit.

In previous missions, the spacecraft It released other mysterious objects into orbit. Overall, China has kept its reusable spacecraft development secret, releasing very little information about its precious craft.

“After a period of in-orbit operation, the experimental spacecraft will return to a designated landing site within China,” state media outlet Xinhua reported. “During this period, it will carry out verification of reusable technologies and space science experiments as scheduled, and provide technical support for the peaceful use of space.”

As the name suggests, a spaceplane is a hybrid between an airplane and a spacecraft that is launched into space by a rocket, where it functions as an orbital spacecraft, and then operates like a normal aircraft in the Earth’s atmosphere. If proven successful, the spaceplane could be a valuable reusable spacecraft that could meet the growing demand for satellite launches and other missions that require transportation into space. Similarly, the United States Space Force has its own spaceplane. Boeing X-37. United States Space Force The X-37B was launched aboard SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket. It departed on its seventh mission on December 28th.
