Peter Cullen has traditionally been a voice actor. Transformers The star Optimus Prime is so synonymous with the character that when you think of him, you can almost hear his voice: “Autobots, move in.” Did you hear it in Karen’s voice? One person who knows the legend well is Chris Hemsworth, who will be voicing the character in the upcoming film. Transformers OneAnd it wasn’t hard for him to understand how big a deal that was.
“What Peter Cullen has done with this character is just amazing,” Hemsworth said during the film’s panel in Comic-Con’s Hall H.It’s iconic and equally as exciting, but also terrifying, to try to play that character. But the goal was never to look like Peter Cullen or talk like him.”
Transformers One Set 3 billion years ago (yes, that’s right) Transformers It’s a story we’re used to seeing, and it’s a defining feature that sets it apart from any other story. Transformers Story: “A lot of times when you watch Transformers, it’s like, ‘It’s war!’ and everything’s already set up,” says Brian Tyree Henry, who voices Megatron in the film. “And here, you get to see the Transformers discover different sides to themselves.”
Fans of the series have long known that Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, and Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, were once friends. But they didn’t know what their lives were like back then, and how they went from best friends to sworn enemies. And that’s the crux of the movie. “This is a cocky, young, confident version of Orion Pax and Optimus Prime,” Hemsworth said, “before he became the omnipotent, omnipresent, amazing guy that we’ve come to know and love. So the youthfulness and the banter and the humor were really important.”
To ensure their version of the character was unique enough to set it apart from the original, Hemsworth and Henry needed to bring something distinctive to the table.”“There was a lot of enthusiasm and passion between those two characters,” Hemsworth said. “They’re a little bit idealistic. They have big hopes and dreams of who they can become. And I thought that helped ground the story. If we’d started with characters that we know, then again, to just copy something would have felt too similar to what we’d seen. So when I read the script, I felt like there was an original story in there, and I was really excited about it.”
And it gave me the courage to step into those giant blue shoes left by the legendary Peter Cullen. Transformers One It will open on September 20th.
