First Season Percy Jackson and the Olympians was a fairly well-received (and well-watched) hit on Disney+ when it premiered last year, fulfilling the role of a film adaptation of the book that fans have been hoping for for a while now. Season 2 is currently in the works, and based on a teaser from last night’s D23 panel, it looks like Disney is all-in on adapting Rick Riordan’s children’s book series into the big screen.
The trailer mostly serves as a summary of the first season, but also includes a brief teaser of what’s to come. Monster sea, Percy (Walker Scovel) takes part in a chariot race at Camp Half-Blood, but this is just the beginning. Season 2 picks up one year later as the son of Poseidon embarks on a new adventure among the Greek gods. This time, he and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) are tasked with finding the Golden Fleece to save the camp from Kronos and his forces. They are joined by the Cyclops Tyson (Percy’s half-brother, played by Daniel Dimer) and Ares’ daughter Clarice (Dior Goodjean), who is also tasked with retrieving the Golden Fleece. Their adventure eventually leads them to the Sea of Monsters, otherwise known as the Bermuda Triangle.
Sea of Monsters A 2013 Fox TV adaptation was the final film in the short-lived series. Riordan and crew clearly want the show to go further than those movies, and his involvement will ensure it stays pretty faithful to the books. As for what else we can expect from the season, cast members have teased scenes from the books, such as Grover trying on a wedding dress and a budding romance between Percy and Annabeth.
