Last week, DC Comics released a few details about the upcoming Absolute Comics imprint, which aims to reintroduce classic DC characters with new origins and backstories. Though it’s officially tied to Darkseid, the big draw is the new looks for Batman (muscles!), Superman (long hair!) and Wonder Woman (swords!).
The Dark Knight has garnered the most attention, since Bruce often sports a leaner build than Absolute Batman’s hulking mammoth physique. During a panel today at San Diego Comic-Con, Snyder shared some new details about his and Nick Drago’s Dark Knight. Absolutely Batman The comic is due for release in October. For those of you who are obsessed with size, Snyder revealed that this version of Bruce will be a crime-fighter in his 20s, 6’2″, and 250 pounds. And instead of posing as a wealthy socialite, he’ll be a city engineer for Gotham. He’ll also own a French bulldog.
Snyder called it a “radical reinvention” of the character, and he wasn’t kidding. Though he didn’t give away any plot details, he further revealed that the book’s biggest villain (at least for now) will be Black Mask, and that Alfred Pennyworth will be the subjective character of the book. This Alfred (or “Penny”) is older, but he’s not a butler, and never has been. Instead, he’s a former MI-6 spy and “veteran of the Empire,” and not too worn down to partner Batman on the battlefield.
After Snyder, Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval Absolute Superman. After being approached by Snyder to move from Marvel to DC, Aaron decided he “really wanted to do the Man of Steel” and came up with a new interpretation of the character. He said his goal was not to change the core of the hero, but to ” [his] “Let’s revisit the original concept and think about who he would be if he was born in modern times.” This new Superman is essentially homeless, without the traditional support systems of the Kents and the Fortress of Solitude. For Aaron, a big part of the appeal of the Absolute Universe is the Trinity’s isolation from one another. “Things didn’t go the way you expected,” he says. “So Superman is a little bit isolated, a little bit angry… and, in my opinion, a little bit sexy.”
Finally, Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman Absolute Wonder Woman Diana will be portrayed as “the last of the Amazons and the first of the superheroes,” Sherman said. Of the three, she has the most interesting look, with her arm tattoos and giant sword. She’s not only a warrior, but also a “fully armed” witch who was literally raised in hell. […] “She’s got a real heart of fire.” If that wasn’t enough, the addition of a winged black skeletal horse might just add to her appeal. The details of Diana’s deal and the conflicts she may face are still unclear at this time.
In addition to the Trinity, there is a fourth absolute Jeff Lemire and Nick Robles in early 2025 Absolute Flash No details were revealed at the panel other than its existence, but it was announced to the world.
