DC’s New Comics Give Some Fan Favorites a Deserved Spotlight

In the coming months, DC Comics will be publishing new comics under the All In banner. The big attraction will be the all-new Absolute Universe, but the core DC Universe will continue under the direction of a new creative team and potentially even add entirely new books to the lineup.

DC is set to publish four new comics featuring beloved heroes Batgirl (Cassandra Cain), Black Canary and The Question (Renee Montoya). Batgirl will be written by Tate Bromvall (Massacre House) and Takeshi Miyazawa (silkIn Batgirl 2019, Cass fends off a surprise assassin attack and teams up with her mother, Lady Shiva. With no choice but to work together, Bromball has teased that the ongoing comic will be an “incredible martial arts-packed adventure” that celebrates the character ahead of its 25th anniversary. It will also be Cass’ first solo project as Batgirl in a long time, with Bromball predicting that she’ll “destroy her enemies in a way that only Cass can.” […] The world will never know what happened.”

Next up: Tom King and Ryan Sook Black Canary: Best of the Best A battle ensues between Dinah and Shiva to determine who is the better fighter, and as she fights towards that bout, she learns new moves from fellow fighters, including her mother, Batman, and Wildcat. King further promoted the six-issue book, calling it a “gorgeous, epic, heartbreaking, heartwarming miniseries that focuses on how unique and amazing Dinah is.”

Question: Throughout the Watchtower Alex Segura (Secret Identity) and Kian Tolmay (Fraud), Lenny performs detective work on the Justice League’s space station. Absolute power, Trinity hires her to investigate a murder in a noir tale inspired by classics like Sherlock and Agatha Christie, as well as modern murder mysteries. In an interview with Polygon, Segura cited authors like Walter Moseley, Laura Lippman, and George Pelecanos as influences. But when it comes to comics, he credits collaborator Denny O’Neil, writer Greg Rucka, and artists Dennis Cowan and Cully Hamner as key to Lenny’s success.

“I take their story to heart, as it depicts Lenny overcoming his demons and trying his best to do the right thing,” he explained, adding that to him, Lenny will be “walking among god-like heroes.” Batman: The Long HalloweenBut it will take place in the “much larger, more surreal setting” of the Watchtower, and Tolmay said the broadcaster “will be as important a character in the story as Rene himself.” […] Believe me, there’s a lot of thought that goes into the background that you can’t see beneath the blood and shadows!”

Finally, Black Lightning Brandon Thomas (Black Manta) and Fico Ossio (Mister Miracle: Source of FreedomIn “The Last Jedi,” Jefferson Pierce and his daughter Jennifer (Lightning) are named heads of the Justice League’s new outreach program for metahumans. Shortly after his daughter Anissa comes to him seeking help with new thunder powers, a new version of the Masters of Disaster appears in the Suicide Slums of Metropolis, and the Pierce family must stop it. “As the Pierce family struggles to stay together, a mysterious rival consolidates power and legitimacy, weaponizing public opinion to proclaim that ‘Waller was right’ to fear these power-mad gods,” Thomas told Comics Beat.

Batgirl It began on November 6th and ran for five issues. Black Lightning The following week, November 13th. At the end of the month Black Canary: Best of the Best The story will begin in issue 6 on November 27th. At the time of writing, there is no specific release date.
