Elon Musk said Neuralink has implanted a brain chip in a second patient, according to Reuters.
Developed to help patients with spinal cord injuries, quadriplegia, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the Musk-owned medical technology company inserted the first implant into a human patient in January 2024. Notably, the implant was not without problems, as Neuralink revealed in May.
On Friday, Musk took a break from fighting grown-ups, promoting Donald Trump, and spreading political misinformation on the feverish trash can that is X (formerly Twitter) to appear on an eight-hour (seriously) podcast with MIT research scientist Lex Friedman to talk about Neuralink and its second human trials.

“I don’t want to sound too sinister, but the second implant appears to have worked extremely well,” Musk told the news outlet. “There’s a lot of signal, there’s a lot of electrodes, and it’s working extremely well.”
Fridman has previously interviewed some of the founders of major tech companies, including Mark Zuckerberg, who was interviewed on Metaverse. Neuralink’s first test subject, Nolan Arbaugh, was also interviewed on the podcast, along with the company’s COO and president, DJ Seo, chief neurosurgeon, Matthew McDougall, and head of brain interface software, Bliss Chapman.
Thankfully, if you want to skip the ayahuasca chat, Fridman has posted the topics and timestamps in X.
