Astronauts aboard the International Space Station have to perform many important tasks every day. But even astronauts need time to rest and relax. And, if they want, they can watch a movie or TV show. What options do you have 250 miles above Earth? Believe it or not, they’re surprisingly fulfilling.
In 2016, Gizmodo filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with NASA asking about movies and TV shows available on the ISS. The list was a fascinating glimpse into the astronauts’ lives on their downtime, so we recently decided to file another FOIA request to see what new movies and TV shows will be streaming on the ISS.
Today we start with a list of TV shows. What’s new? A lot, actually. Of course, Hulu first Sean Penn starred in the critically acclaimed 2018 alternate history drama For All Mankindand comedy in the Trump era. Space ForceOther new series include Boba Fett’s Book, crownand cooking shows Minced.
Other SF series include Andre, Star Trek Discovery, fire Flyand Battlestar GalacticaHowever, there have also been many sitcoms set on Earth over the past few decades. friend, Young Sheldon, how i met your mother, and The Big Bang TheoryAstronauts can also watch HBO shows. The ISS also hosts the following Apple shows: Severance payNetflix shows Stranger Thingsand Disney+ shows LokiTypically, shows seem to include most of the seasons that have been released, but there are some exceptions – for example, ISS includes seasons 1, 2, and 4. Mr. RobotWhere is season 3? That part is unclear.
There is also a documentary series Leaving Earth: NASA Missions Since 2008, From the Earth to the Moon Since 1998, The final days of World War II Since 2005.
