again The second WIRED & Octopus Energy Tech Summit, taking place in Berlin this October, will bring together Europe’s leading experts and visionaries in the green energy sector to explore ways to accelerate the creation of a completely carbon-free energy system.
Last year’s summit focused on the urgent need for green technology in the wake of the energy crisis, with audiences listening to business leaders, startup founders, politicians, inventors and even astronauts.
This year, energy leaders from across the EU are coming together to pave the way for a rapid global energy transition. Join us on 10 October to see energy innovation in action and collaborate with over 500 experts and thinkers to deliver a green transition.
Here’s everything you need to know.
When and where is the event taking place?
The summit will take place on Thursday, October 10, at Kraftwerk Berlin, a former power station in Berlin’s Mitte district and a testament to the city’s industrial history. Built around the same time as the Berlin Wall, the building has since been transformed into an iconic event space in the heart of the capital.
We encourage you to get here by foot, bicycle or public transport. There are great public transport connections nearby, including the Heinrich-Heine-Straße U-Bahn station and the Heinrich-Heine-Straße and Michaelkirch-Straße bus stops. You can find the Kraftwerk’s location here.
Doors open for registration and breakfast at 8am, with the day’s program beginning at 9am.
Who is talking?
The stage will feature a lineup of change makers, business leaders and futurists from politics, sports, energy, architecture, film and transportation.
Hear from Bertrand Piccard, who made history by completing the first non-stop flight around the world in a solar-powered ball; Jeff Dodds, who is taking Formula E to the next level; Polestar’s Fredrika Claren, who aims to develop a completely climate-neutral car by 2030; and internationally acclaimed architect Francis Kéré, who is pushing the boundaries of design with his community-focused, sustainable approach. Watch this space for other big names to be announced in the coming weeks.
The event will cover everything from the future of EVs and global transportation to the challenges of sustainable building design and greening the growing environmental impact of AI. Presentations will range from interviews and fireside chats to panels and keynotes.
Also returning this year will be Yuliana Onyshchuk, CEO and founder of the Ukrainian Energy Law Foundation, which is installing solar power plants on key Ukrainian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, to protect Ukraine from power outages caused by a Russian invasion.
What else is there?
The full agenda and speaker list can be found on the Summit website. The day will kick off with coffee and breakfast before the stage sessions begin, followed by a networking lunch and a drinks reception at the end of the afternoon.
During the day, the Waldorf Project, a provider of innovative immersive experiences, will present VIRTUAL SERENITY, the world’s largest digital empathy engineering experiment, on the Mountaintop Stage.
In what will be the first time the full potential of a connected world in the Metaverse is realised, 300 strangers will be given the opportunity to take part in a mind-melting consciousness experience. Using bespoke VR technology with cutting-edge biometric sensors and surround sound, participants will embark on a journey of deep introspection.
Octopus Energy will also be showcasing cutting-edge renewable and sustainable energy solutions and technologies throughout the day.
How can I participate?
Tickets can be purchased on the WIRED & Octopus Energy Tech Summit website, with all ticket proceeds going to the Energy Act for Ukraine Foundation. More speakers will be announced in the coming weeks. This is one talk you won’t want to miss.
