Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team are simply Fantastic Four The title was on display at this year’s Comic-Con, and not only were director Matt Shakman and stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in attendance, but there was also a whopping fantastic car that flew across Hall H at the end of the panel and whisked the cast back to London to film the movie.
They also released a special teaser for the film, which has yet to begin principal photography, but gives us a good look at the futuristic New York City in which the film is set.
First off, the image is boxy and grainy like a 1960s TV. The logo for a company called “The Future Foundation” claims to be a special depiction of the Fantastic Four. We see Mister Fantastic (Pascal) hosting a classroom-like show. Mister Fantastic and the Fantastic ScienceHe is explaining to a group of kids that the multiverse is possible (hint), but when he sees they are getting bored he says “Anyone want to see a big explosion?”, to which they all cheer. He lights a large engine in the room, which bursts into flames.
Reed and Ben (Moss-Bachrach) are being interviewed. They are both wearing space suits. Reed says Ben is the best pilot in the world, but Ben jokes that he may be the best looking, but that’s all. Sue (Kirby) gives a tour of the house while Reed explains that they have a weekly family dinner on Sundays at 8pm. “We’re all here, come what may.” They are both smartly dressed for a dinner party. Then we see a flying car zooming across a very futuristic New York skyline.
As narration of the launch plays, the four are shown walking in slow motion toward the spacecraft. Apollo 13. Then go to a game show Let’s matchWhen the presenter asks the woman which man she would like to choose, she answers number 3. The camera pans to reveal that it is the Thing, albeit in silhouette (his head is stereotypically shaped).
Behind the scenes at the launch site, the group is running a series of tests, including communications checks. “The last voice you heard was my brother, Jonathan Storm,” Sue Storm says. “And guys, he’s really single.” He (Quinn) looks shyly into the camera.
The four are shown walking towards the shuttle and waving to the crowds, and finally the 4:3 television ratio is expanded to full widescreen, revealing the spaceship resembling a giant spike. Lord of the Ringwill take to the sky. The new title is, Fantastic Four: The First StepThen there’s one more addition: from inside the building, a giant form is standing outside, crouching down to peer in: it’s Galactus.
Fantastic Four: The First Step It will open on July 25, 2025.
