Many organizations require their staff to change their computer passwords regularly for security reasons. Now, the U.S. government is saying that people who create and run software and online tools should stop this practice. So what are people really supposed to do?
The latest advice from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) didn’t come out of nowhere. This is based on decades of research showing that forcing website and software users to regularly change their passwords actually compromises security.
