One of Tesla’s first big tricks was when it started offering over-the-air upgrades to make its cars significantly faster. There’s something special about being able to upgrade the performance of a car you’ve already bought. Now Ford is following suit, offering a software upgrade that will make the Mustang Mach-E GT significantly faster.
The upgrade only applies to owners of the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT, but the impact is significant, adding 100 pound-feet of torque from the car’s two electric motors and cutting the 0-60 mph time from 3.8 seconds to 3.3 seconds. According to Chet Durna, Ford’s general manager of integrated services, such an upgraded Mustang can run the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 114 mph.

The upgrade isn’t free – it’ll cost $995 before tax – but it still seems like a pretty good deal that will turn your Mustang Mach-E GT into a full-on tire-destroying machine.

Customers buying a new Mustang Mach-E GT can add the upgrade as an option, while those who already own the car can download it via the FordPass app (it must be a 2024 model, though).
The Mustang Mach-E GT is the most powerful electric Mustang in Ford’s lineup, and the upgrades make it one of the quickest SUVs available — quicker than the Tesla Model Y Performance, for example, which accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, and quicker than all variants of Porsche’s electric Macan except for the Turbo Electric, which beats the Mustang from 0 to 60 mph in 0.2 seconds.
