From Djo’s ‘End of Beginning’ to Tinashe’s ‘Nasty,’ the most talked-about songs on TikTok in 2024

TikTok, the app known for propelling unknown artists onto the Billboard charts, has had a rocky start to 2024.

Universal Music Group (UMG) removed catalogs from the platform, including big-name artists like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Drake, in late January after negotiations between the company and TikTok fell apart. In February, UMG removed more music from the platform, this time all songs managed by Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), including songs written or co-written by UMG artists. TikTok estimates that UMG owns 20 to 30 percent of the music on the platform.

His moves were so at odds with his nerdy appearance that it quickly became the subject of memes.

Between March and May, Kendrick Lamar and Drake engaged in a fierce rap battle inspired by Future, Metro Boomin and Lamar’s “Like That.”

Beyoncé inspired a classic TikTok dance with “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM.” The original dance video, choreographed by users Dexter Mayfield (@dexrated) and Matt McCall (@matt8mccall), garnered an astounding 43.5 million views and 4.2 million likes. The song has since been used in over 1 million videos.

Charlie XCX’s “The Von Dutch Remix with Addison Rae & AG Cook”
