We’ve been looking forward to getting hitched since getting engaged in June, but after seeing some quotes on wedding venues it felt like a wake up call.
“Ding Dong” has been remixed into “Cha Ching”. I need help.
I don’t know how to do it start Planning a wedding. What’s the first step? What needs to be prioritized first? Which tasks are urgent? And which can wait a year or two?
I decided to enlist the help of an AI assistant and I thought it would be interesting to go a step further and find out which chatbot is better as a wedding planner – Gemini Advanced or ChatGPT Plus (i.e. ChatGPT 4o).
Gemini vs ChatGPT: Creating a to-do list
I plan on getting married in the summer of 2026, meaning sometime between August and September. Other than that, nothing is set in stone, so I asked both Gemini and ChatGPT to create a to-do list for me based on the following prompts:
“My wedding will take place between August 2026 and September 2026. Please give me a to-do list of things I need to do for the rest of 2024, 2025, and 2026 for my wedding with 100 guests.”

Both of them started their lists accurately—setting a budget is an important first step—but the problem with Gemini’s answer is that it recommends finding a venue. in front Create a guest list. Find a wedding venue. Know the approximate number of guests: One of the first things your venue coordinator will ask is, “How many people are coming to your wedding?”
Interestingly, ChatGPT wants me to take an early approach, recommending booking the venue in 2024 and finalizing other vendors (florist, entertainment, photographer, etc.) in 2025. Gemini, on the other hand, is fine with booking both in 2025. ChatGPT wants us to set up the registry in 2025 and get our marriage license in 2025. Gemini, on the other hand, is fine with us postponing the former until 2026, but doesn’t say anything about the marriage license.
But to be fair, ChatGPT didn’t mention any honeymoon plans.
They both agree that 2025 is the year to go wedding dress shopping and send out save the dates emails. For 2026, they both recommend sending out invitations and confirming bookings with vendors.
ChatGPT offered some helpful tips I hadn’t thought of before, like using folders and binders to organize quotes, contracts, and ideas in one place, and creating a timeline for your wedding day.

Gemini vs ChatGPT: Finding a Cheap Venue
I wanted to know if Gemini Advanced and ChatGPT Plus could help me find a venue that was cost-effective within my budget (i.e. $20,000).
After searching the far reaches of the internet, we found several venues offering all-inclusive packages including a DJ, emcee, limousine service, florist, cake, and photographer for under $20,000.
So I put Gemini Advanced and ChatGPT Plus to the test to see if they could find these locations with the following prompt:
“Look for a venue that offers a complete wedding package with a budget of $20,000 or less. The venue must be in Queens, Long Island, or at most within the Hudson River Valley area. Guest size is 100. The wedding is planned for 2026, preferably between August and September. It can be a Sunday or Saturday wedding. It can be day or evening.”

These are the wedding venues I found during my research that offer a luxurious and visually stunning wedding without asking for an exorbitant fee.
The Pavilion at Sunken Meadows State Park does offer complete wedding packages, with a starting price of $18,000. I’m not sure if Vaughn Mansion and Larkfield have complete wedding packages, but Larkfield quoted me $110 per person for an afternoon wedding for 100 guests, including food and wedding cake. With a $1,500 ceremony fee, the subtotal comes to $12,500.

Did I miss out on any other budget-friendly venues I discovered during my research? Yes, but you’re on the right track.
Gemini, on the other hand, shocked me, and not in a good way. Since Gemini is a Google-owned service, I figured they could leverage their vast repository of information to give ChatGPT an edge. But Gemini gave me some pretty disappointing, half-assed answers.

Leonard’s Palazzo is the wedding venue I got a personalized quote from during my venue search. Although they don’t offer complete wedding packages, they quoted me around $16,000 for a ceremony and reception for 100 guests, including food and cake. Not bad!
I’m scratching my head because the Manhattan-based hotels recommended aren’t in my preferred area (at least Andaz 5th Avenue is within my budget).
And Gemini brazenly says, “I hope this helps!” Is he kidding me?

Gemini vs ChatGPT: Calculate the price
Both Gemini Advanced and ChatGPT Plus can “read” PDFs and screenshots, making them ideal AI assistants for making sense of confusing rate cards (and the small print taxes and tips within them that need to be added onto the base price).
Below is an example of one of the many charts I came across during my venue search.

I decided to test the computational capabilities of Gemini and ChatGPT based on the PDF above.
“View our price list for weddings in 2025. Total price is calculated based on a Sunday noon date between August 2025 and September 2025 and a guest list of 100 adults. Ceremony will be on-site. Includes administrative fees, New York State sales tax, suggested gratuity, and bridal attendant fees.”
Gemini Advanced is a total $21,017 Posted by ChatGPT Plus $20,568.69. Why are the totals different? The first one added $400 for bridesmaids to the subtotal. in front This is in addition to a 22% administration fee.
On the other hand, ChatGPT applied their 22% administration fee only to the base rate (i.e. $130 x 100 guests) and ceremony fee. after that A bridal attendant fee of $400 was added. Based on quotes from other venues, ChatGPT’s calculations seem to be more accurate.

Gemini vs ChatGPT: Wedding Concept Image Generation
I asked Gemini and ChatGPT to generate concept images for a wedding reception based on the following prompts:
“My fiancé and I are tech journalists and, of course, we’re obsessed with technology – laptops, phones, VR headsets, games, XR glasses, etc. We also love space, so we wanted to incorporate an astronomical feel into our wedding. Generating images for our wedding reception will beautifully communicate the theme and design of this wedding.”

ChatGPT provided one image, which was perfect for what I was looking for. Gemini provided three images, of which only the first one caught my eye.
But ChatGPT produced the most eye-catching image.
