One of the highlights of the astronomical calendar and one I look forward to every year is the Perseid meteor shower. Visible in parts of the Northern and Southern Hemisphere, this impressive meteor shower peaks on the night of August 12 and lasts until the early hours of August 13. What makes this meteor shower special, at least in the Northern Hemisphere where I live, is that it tends to occur on warmer nights, unlike December’s equally spectacular Geminid meteor shower.
The number of meteors you can see in the Perseid meteor shower will vary depending on factors such as light pollution.
