The Last of Us Season 2 First Look
I saved her
The sub-30-second trailer was released by Max with a simple caption: “I saved her.” The trailer expands on this by showing O’Hella’s character talking to Pascal’s Joel about what he presumably did to Ellie at the end of the previous season. Joel denies hurting her and tearfully insists he saved her. Given the moral ambiguity of the Season 1 ending, his response here feels appropriate.
The clip shows many scenes from the upcoming season out of context, including Ellie’s tattoo, Tommy protecting Jackson, the Seraphites, Dina, and Abby moving through the forest, and more. As it’s a teaser, it doesn’t tell us much about how far the story will go or how much it may or may not deviate from the original. Some key moments appear to be directly compared to earlier events in the game, but the quick editing makes it hard to know for sure if they will play out in the same way.
We already know that Season 2 won’t cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part 2, as showrunners Craig Mazen and Neil Druckmann stated. Season 2 will be shorter than Season 1, with only seven episodes, and will end at a “natural break.” Those who have played the game are already speculating about where and how the seasons will naturally split up.
The Last of Us Part 2 was the subject of a lot of controversy both before and during its release due to certain narrative choices made very early on. Spoilers aside, those who have played the game are very curious to see how the show will represent its events and how the story will play out as a result.
The Last of Us Season 2 is currently in development and is scheduled to premiere exclusively on HBO Max in 2025.
