If you’re not a fan of writing emails, Gmail’s latest Gemini-powered update might be the solution.
As Google announced in a blog post on Tuesday, Gmail’s new “Polish” feature uses the company’s Gemini AI to do just that for your drafts — an expansion of the AI-powered “Help me writing” feature it introduced for Google Docs and Gmail last May.
The “Polish” feature is available via a “Revise Draft” shortcut that appears within email drafts on both desktop and mobile Android and iOS devices. However, the feature is only available to users who have paid for Gemini on Google Workspace or Google One AI Premium. For these users, the feature will be turned on by default, according to Google.
Gemini Live: I used it before you, and it’s the biggest threat to ChatGPT right now.
When you write an email in Gmail, you can select the “Revise Draft” option to formalize, elaborate, shorten, and polish unnecessary words. The polish option allows you to write your email as a rough note and turn it into a proper, formal email that others can understand.

According to Google, this is how the feature works:
“When your email draft has more than 12 words, the ‘Refine Draft’ shortcut appears below the email content, letting you know you have the option to refine, formalize, elaborate, shorten your draft, or create a new draft. You can launch the menu by simply swiping right on ‘Refine Draft.'”
This is one of the few new features for Gemini; Google had few AI announcements at its “Made by Google” event last week, which was mostly about its new Pixel phones. However, Google did announce some Gemini-powered Gmail updates, including a tool to summarize emails, highlights in Google Meet, and the ability to ask Gemini about your inbox.
At the event, Google also announced Gemini Live, an AI chatbot that Mashable technology editor Kim Gedeon called “the biggest threat to ChatGPT right now.”
