Changes in design and specifications for Pixel Buds Pro 2
Google’s latest earbuds are slimmer and lighter
Pixel Buzz Pro 2
Google Pixel Buds 2 are the first earbuds to feature the Tensor A1 chipset, which means the earbuds support Google AI and, combined with ANC and Silent Seal 2.0 technology, provide improved noise cancellation.
Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 carry over a lot from the 2022 version of the wireless earbuds. The egg-shaped charging case returns with no changes to its dimensions. The overall shape and design is also largely the same as the previous model. However, the earbuds now measure 22.74mm x 23.08mm x 17.03mm (up from 22.33mm x 22.03mm x 23.72mm). The earbuds themselves are slender, with a noticeable curve towards the ear tips. The earbuds have been reduced in size by 27% and are considerably lighter, with each earbud weighing 4.7g (down from 6.2g).
This year, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 introduce new twist-adjustable stabilizers that allow you to lock the earbuds in place to prevent them from accidentally falling out while working out, or adjust them the other way for all-day comfort. It’s a feature I’m excited to try out myself at the gym.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are built on the Tensor A1 chip, making them the first earbuds to feature Google’s Tensor architecture. Google says the use of the Tensor A1 chip improves performance and battery life. Each earbud supports custom-designed 11mm dynamic speaker drivers, Transparency Mode, and in-ear pressure relief, and the Tensor chipset also improves audio quality.
Pixel Buds Pro 2 delivers up to 12 hours of playtime with ANC off and up to 48 hours with the charging case. In comparison, the previous model delivers 7 hours of battery life without ANC and up to 31 hours with the charging case. With ANC on, you can expect around 8 hours of playtime. Pixel Buds Pro 2 still supports 5 minutes of charging, delivering up to 1.5 hours of battery life.
Other notable spec upgrades include support for Bluetooth 5.4. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 earbuds are IP54 rated, and the wireless charging case has an improved IPX4 waterproof rating. The earbuds can also automatically switch between devices if you start watching a movie on your tablet and then a podcast on your smartphone.

Google AI and Silent Seal 2.0 technology are the highlights of the year
Improved ANC thanks to Tensor A1 chip and Google AI
Google has made a number of small tweaks and improvements to the Pixel Buds Pro 2, most notably the ANC. The company says the new earbuds can process sound 90 times faster than the speed of sound. Using three microphones built into each earbud, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 adapt to their environment up to 3 million times per second.
Silent Seal 2.0 has an expanded frequency range, allowing Pixel Buds Pro 2 to cancel a wider range of unwanted noises. This, in theory, allows for a listening experience that’s less disruptive to outside noise. With Pixel’s Clear Calling, you should notice less noise when talking to someone on the phone. Whether your friends or family are on the subway or near a busy intersection, you should hear them more clearly with less noise.
Pixel Buds Pro 2 uses AI to detect when you start speaking. Conversation detection automatically pauses music when you start a conversation. Pixel Buds Pro 2 automatically switches to transparency mode so you can hear the other person better. When the conversation ends, Pixel Buds Pro 2 automatically resumes music and switches back to ANC.
