House of the DragonThe season 2 finale of “The Eternal Queen” left a lot of questions to be answered in season 3, but with new episodes not coming anytime soon, fans are Answerdammit! — it’s time to comb through the interview the next morning for insights and clues. Luckily, the episode’s director, Geeta Vasant Patel, is there to help with some of the heavy lifting.
For those of you who haven’t seen last night’s finale…
In an interview with Variety, Patel, who also directed the season’s third episode, “The Burning Mill,” talked about Damon’s vision, which included several key elements: game of thrones He experiences and experiences moments like the birth of the White Walkers and Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons, which convince the wayward prince to support Queen Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne.
House of the Dragon Season 1 saw the first reference to A Song of Ice and Fire. King Viserys explained the story to his daughter as a prophetic dream seen by Aegon the Conqueror, a tale that all Targaryen lords must understand in order to unite the realm against this supernatural threat. In Season 2, Rhaenyra passed the tale on to her son and heir, Jace. However, the “Eternal Queen” was House of the Dragon The program, which visualized the oral history, was also the first opportunity to get a first-hand glimpse into that history. game of thrones future.
“It was such an honor to be a part of that run,” Patel told the trade publication. “When I received the script, the visual beats were all listed, but there was room for direction. You have to think about how all of this flows together… I think the dragon [next to Daenerys] “Rhaenyra in the Shadows is going to be so interesting because it’s not about Daenerys, it’s a story of history. We’re in Daemon’s perspective, so the vision had to tell Daemon the story of the history of his people, and it had to have Rhaenyra on the throne. It’s very tempting to say, ‘Let’s show Daenerys! Let’s zoom in on this!’ But that’s not the point. In fact, Daemon doesn’t know who she is. We need to make Daemon understand that he has to be willing to bow to Rhaenyra.”
The vision also hints at Damon’s own devastating future, though Patel was reluctant to discuss what may or may not happen in Season 3 (“I might get in trouble if I reveal anything,” she said).
She’s more forthright in admitting that, like all viewers, she’d like to know what’s become of Otto Hightower. He’s been missing since his inglorious departure from King’s Landing, and the final scene quickly makes it clear the reason for his absence: he’s locked up in a prison somewhere. “I was asked to do that scene,” says Patel, though she was given no context for it. “I’d love to know where he is, too. I don’t know!”
