In this book, Martin strongly suggests that Daenerys’ egg arrived in Essos long before the Dance of Dragons, during the reign of King Jaehaerys I. Reyna attending to Daenerys’ egg creates an interesting opportunity. First, it’s not entirely inconsistent with the books: She brings three eggs to the Valley, one of which will hatch her dragon, Mourning. (Mourning will presumably hatch from the fourth silvery blue egg we see in Star Wars.) House of the Dragon(?) Adding a fourth egg to the nest isn’t that big a change. The question is, how do these eggs get from the Vale to Essos? Will Rhayna, Aegon and Viserys make it to Pentos? Will someone follow in Elyssa Farman’s footsteps and steal the eggs?

Thematically, it also makes sense that Reyna would be near Daenerys’ eggs. As Reyna tells her, these eggs are the Targaryen’s “hope for the future.” Even if the war with Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) ends badly (as it certainly will), these eggs represent a chance for the Targaryen dragon-riding tradition to continue. So it’s reassuring to know that these eggs will eventually find their way to Daenerys.

Rayna’s involvement in the scene indicates that she and her twin sister, Béla (Bethany Antonia), will have larger roles this season. “The other part of[the egg scene]is Rayna saying goodbye to her family and abandoning them to become a leader,” Patel explained.

What better way to be a leader than to lead the next generation of House Targaryen and their dragons?
