With food shortages for the commoners caused by Rhaenyra (Emma Darcy) and Corlys (Steve Toussaint)’s gullet blockade, while the city’s nobles and rulers overindulge every night, it only takes a tip-off by Mysalia (Sonoya Mizuno) and a ship full of food sent from Dragonstone to provoke the commoners into rebellion.
How House of the Dragon Season 2 is Different from George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood
As a ravenous mob pursues Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Helena (Fia Saban), an overzealous King’s Guard knight chops off a man’s hand to protect his queen, an act that not only marks a violent turning point in the riots but also may mark the arrival of a key character from George R.R. Much later in The Dance of the Dragons, Martin introduces a character he calls simply “the Shepherd.” game of thronesHigh Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce). Like the High Sparrow, Shepard is a devout follower of the Seven who gathers many followers. He preaches against Rhaenyra and House Targaryen, declaring dragons “unnatural” and Valyria a “vile cesspit.”
Most notably, Shepard can be operated one-handed.

Fire and Blood It suggests that the shepherd lost his hand as a punishment for stealing. House of the Dragon‘s version of the character is unlikely to be officially introduced at a later date, but perhaps he lost his mind during the mayhem of Episode 6? What if he was a victim of Kingsguard violence?
This potential change could add an interesting twist to Shepard’s character. Fire and BloodLosing his hand in the uprising undoubtedly intensified his hatred for the Targaryens, enough to have him begin a campaign against them. While his anger during the uprising was primarily directed at those currently ruling the Targaryens, such as Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), Rhaenyra’s involvement in the blockade would never have endeared her to Shepard. Additionally, Shepard hates all Targaryens, whether they’re on the green or black team.
Finally, the shepherd’s presence at the riot creates a full-circle moment for one of his most memorable scenes. Fire and BloodAs his influence grew, his words incited a mob to storm House Targaryen’s dragonpit, with disastrous results.
Of course, this guy from episode 6 House of the DragonThe Shepherd of. The Kingsguard or City Watch probably chop off citizens’ hands every day. No wonder the commoners were angry! But the series still features this man and his very specific punishment at length, enough to plant the idea of the Shepherd in people’s minds. Fire and Blood Fan.
