But what is Sharp Point, and why is Aymond targeting that location in particular?
What is a Sharp Point?
If you look at any official map of Westeros, you’ll see Sharp Point at the end of the peninsula surrounding Blackwater Bay. It’s likely the closest mainland town to Dragonstone, where Aemond flew to at the end of episode 7 when he was defeated by Rhaenyra’s (Emma Darcy) new dragon. So there’s a clear geographic reason why the town fell victim to his wrath. Simply put, it’s one of the places he burns the most.
But as showrunner Ryan Condal explains in his YouTube breakdown of the final episode, there’s more to it than that.
“Aemond was furious,” Condal says, “and it was also a strategic move, as Sharp Point is home to House Massey, who sit on Rhaenyra’s council. This is punishment for siding with the pretender.”
So here’s the truth: Aemond isn’t just destroying towns indiscriminately, even in his rage: Gormon Massey (James Dreyfuss), the head of the Rhaenyra Council, is the target of his attack.
