House of the Dragon Season 2 may have felt a little short, but at least we know the action won’t be put off forever.
During a press conference after Monday’s finale, showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed that the show would end with season four, with production on season three beginning early next year.
Why on earth did House of the Dragon Season 2 not have 10 episodes?
In terms of length, it seems like eight-episode seasons may also become the new norm.
“I have not had any discussions with HBO about this,” Condal told Variety, “and I expect that the pace of the show will remain the same from a dramatic storyline standpoint into season two and beyond.”

Regarding the way Season 2 ended (which was basically a lot of set-up for the upcoming battle and not much action), Condal said they’re trying to leave plenty of room for the upcoming “Battle of the Esophagus,” and that the action will begin in the not-too-distant future.
“We’re going to Garrett, which is probably the most anticipated, or maybe the second most anticipated, action event. Fire and BloodWe’re trying to give it the time and space it deserves. As anyone who’s seen the final episode can tell, we’re gearing up for that event, which will happen very soon in terms of storytelling. House of the Dragon” said Condal.
“Knowing what we know now, this is going to be the biggest thing we’ve ever done,” he continued, “and we just wanted the time and space to do it in the way that it deserves, at a level that will excite and satisfy our fans.”
House of the Dragon Season 2 is currently streaming on Max.
