last year, Elon Musk X (formerly Twitter) is Grok Grok is X’s own chatbot, and is compatible with Gemini and Chat GPT and also helps create tweets and content for the platform. All AI chatbots create content through prompts and can pull information from across the internet. What makes Grok different from other chatbots is that it can pull information from across X, which allows it to pull more time-sensitive and timely information compared to other chatbots.
Recently, X was announced to roll out Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini, which offer two different models to upgrade your chatbot’s performance. The latest update to Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini now allows you to create images. Currently, it is only available in beta testing for X premium subscribers, so you will need to pay to access X’s AI image creation.

xAI
Elon Musk’s company xAI announced earlier this week that it has begun beta testing the Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini. The company highlighted how Grok uses an AI tutor to engage with the language model and select the top results from the guidelines you set. When using the Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini to create AI images, there are content restrictions, and if you input anything that is a “red flag,” it will automatically filter out the content, such as “pornography, excessive violence, [or] “Filled with hate.” But as you might imagine, X isn’t known for having super strict content guidelines, so we should take this comment with a pinch of salt.
The AI image processing capabilities also won’t create images that infringe copyrights or can be used as deepfakes. After just three days, the reaction to these images seems lukewarm at best, with one of the main images circulating on X being a Nazi Mickey Mouse. Either way, xAI praises the Grok-2 model’s ability to reason, read, and understand, and you can read more about it in the company’s blog post.
Beta testing of the two language models is available to X Premium and X Premium+ users. It costs $8 per month for those with X Premium accounts and $16 per month for those with X Premium+ accounts. The Grok-2 model offers a range of features that make it appealing to use. Grok-2 is more extensive, intuitive, and can handle more prompts, while Grok-2 mini is faster but smaller in size. xAI recommends the Grok-2 model because it claims that its resources are more accurate, since they come from web searches and not just from X. The language model actually decides for itself whether to search on X or the web.

How to create AI images with Grok
Handling prompts
An important thing to note before we get started is that to use this feature, you’ll need to have access to X on your computer so the website is in “desktop” mode. From there, here’s how to create an AI image with Grok:
- Log in your X Account (Grok-2 beta testing requires an X Premium or X Premium+ account)
- choose Grok Menu on the left side of the screen (displayed in the center of the menu)
- choice Grok-2 or Grok-2 mini To create AI images.
- type A prompt for a search bar to appear in the center of the screen
From there, it’s just a matter of using the prompts as needed. Creating an AI image is no different than asking an AI to look up the meaning of a meme or explain the rules of basketball: you just tell the chatbot to follow your instructions as clearly as possible.
NOTE: Initiating a prompt with the words “Create an image” will allow Grok-2 to create an AI image.
From there, you can see what Grok-2 will create. This is really easy to do, so it’s fun to create images with it. As we’ve seen, it’s also an interesting way to create memes for timely events.
