The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will be remembered for many things: drag performances, shameful accusations against some female athletes, swimming in the Seine, and, of course, incredible sporting achievements. On Sunday, the Olympics will add another memory to that list when Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Red Hot Chili Peppers perform at the Games’ closing ceremony in Los Angeles, officially handing over the Olympics from Paris to the 2028 host city.
The closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics Sunday, August 11th at 3pm EDTKicking off at the Stade de France north of Paris, the two-plus hour match will feature live and taped performances. U.S. fans can watch the event on NBC (the sole distributor of the Olympics in the U.S.), which has done a really good job of covering the Olympics this year, and on Peacock. You can also stream the event on NBCOlympics.com.
The closing ceremony celebrations will go ahead despite live music events being put on high alert following an attempted terror attack this week at a Vienna concert of Taylor Swift’s Erasu Tour. Variety reports that local authorities had concerns about crowd control and security even before news of the planned attack in Austria broke. Variety did not disclose the location of the concert due to these concerns.
In addition to Southern California heroes Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop (who was also an internet hero at the Paris Games), Tom Cruise is rumored to be performing a stunt to help move the 2024 Olympics to Los Angeles.
The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles from July 14 to July 30.
