Lenovo’s latest Android tablet might seem a little too flashy for its price, but it’s also one you’ll want to take on the road this summer. The Lenovo Tab Plus comes with eight large speakers that let you blast your music and movies wherever you go. The speakers are specially tuned to work with Dolby Atmos, which is a nice tradeoff for the other mid-range specs that make up this device.
The Lenovo Tab Plus is an Android tablet with an 11.5″ LCD. It has a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes it smoother than a typical computer monitor. It’s powered by a decidedly mid-range MediaTek Helio G99 processor with 8GB of RAM, more than enough for watching movies, streaming music, and playing the occasional mobile game. The Tab Plus also has an expandable Micro SD card slot, which is hard to find on Android devices these days. Up to 256GB of onboard storage is available.
The main reason to buy this tablet over any other Android tablet is the number of speakers Lenovo has crammed into a sub-2 pound chassis. As mentioned above, the Lenovo Tab Plus is equipped with eight JBL-branded speakers (four matrix tweeters and four force-balanced woofers) that are Dolby Atmos tuned. There’s also a kickstand on the back that rotates 175 degrees, so you can position it however you like, whether you want to listen to a podcast from afar or just want to listen to music in silence.
The Lenovo Tab Plus is equipped with an 8,600mAh battery, which is standard for a tablet in this class. Lenovo says it can be fully charged in 90 minutes, which is good news for travelers who rely on the tablet for entertainment during long plane journeys. It’s also IP52 water- and dust-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about it warping if you take it into a humid environment like a bathroom.
I had the chance to try out the Lenovo Tab Plus at a meeting with the company a few months ago, and was impressed by the range of immersive experiences provided by the tablet’s external speakers and the color saturation of the LCD.
If you need extra features, Lenovo sells a Tab Pen Plus and wireless keyboard for the Tab Plus tablet. At $280, the Lenovo Tab Plus doesn’t have the specs to help you get work done on the go, but it does have space to store your library of ripped DVDs to watch on the go.
